St. James Anglican Cemetery, Caledon

The land for the church and cemetery was donated by William Matthews in 1848.
In 1901 St. James Church was relocated to the town of Caledon East and the roughcast church building on this site was torn down. The cemetery is maintained to day by a cemetery board.

  1. "Tomb of Clara Ann Swollow, aged 16 years." This is the tomb of my great-aunt who is the daughter of Rev. William Francis Swallow and his wife Jane (Holmes) Swallow and sister of Margaret Emily Swallow, Mary Wilhemena Swallow and Edith Sara Swallow who also rest in this cemetery. Elder brothers, John Charles Swallow rests in Midland; and Arthur Edgar Swallow rests in Stayner. A younger sister, my grandmother, Alice Ethel (Swallow) Jiggins rests in St. James Cemetery, Toronto. The purpose of this comment is to provide a little background into Clara and to provide the correct spelling of her name - "Clara Annie Swallow". My great-grandfather, was rector at St. James Church, Caledon East and to other churches in the area throughout his ministry.
